Imagine having an extra set of eyes on the road

Using your vehicle’s built-in camera or radar, the Pre-Collision Safety (PCS) system has been designed to alert you when a frontal collision is likely[S1][J11].

Some new models even feature PCS with Pedestrian Detection (which, depending on your vehicle, may be effective during the day and/or at night)[S1][J11] and PCS with Cyclist Detection (effective during the day only) to help you avoid or reduce the severity of a collision[S1][J11].

How it works

If a potential collision is detected, the system will sound a buzzer and display the word “BRAKE” on your Toyota’s Multi-Information Display (behind the steering wheel) or Head-Up display if you have one.

Assess

Once you’ve hit the brakes, the system will check whether you’ve applied enough pressure. If you haven’t, it may add a little extra to avoid or reduce the severity of a collision.

Support

Support

If the hazard is too close, the Pre-Collision Brake (PB) system will activate, applying a large amount of pressure to help you stop sooner and minimise any damage.

VIEW FEATURE

Pedestrian, bike and intersection detection.

Select Toyota vehicles will have the capacity to detect pedestrians and cyclists[S1] (available in daylight only), and will also help avoid collisions when turning across intersections.

Stay alert

Even when you’re driving a vehicle that uses PCS with Pedestrian Detection Technology, you must always remain aware of your surroundings – especially as pedestrians and cyclists aren’t always easy to see.

Here's a list of some of the things that might impact the operation of your PCS system:

  • Low or harsh light
  • People who may be obstructed from view
  • Certain clothing or movement that obscures or affects body contours
  • Pedestrians that are under one metre or over two metres tall

For owners

You can adjust the sensitivity of your vehicle’s Pre-Collision Safety system through the metre control switches. For more information please read your Toyota owner’s manual.
